Intelligence is the reasoning level you assign to the job. Most jobs should start on Normal. Move to Ultra only when the work needs deeper reasoning.

Sessions have three settings

New sessions start on Normal unless you change Default intelligence under Settings, then Behavior. That preference applies to new sessions on the device where you changed it. You can still change the intelligence setting inside a session whenever the work changes.

Scheduled Runners use Normal or Ultra

A scheduled Runner can’t use Auto. Choose Normal for routine work and Ultra when the job needs the extra depth. New Runners start on Normal unless you choose Ultra while setting one up.
Changing intelligence doesn’t change tool permissions. Ultra doesn’t let Runner read, change, or send anything Normal couldn’t.

Choose what sits behind each setting

Open Settings, then Behavior to choose the supported model behind Normal and Ultra. The available list can change as models are added or retired. The session picker stays simple. It shows Auto, Normal, and Ultra rather than a separate exact-model list.

Keep an eye on usage

Ultra uses more of your plan than Normal. That matters most for a Runner that runs often. Use Normal for recurring triage and summaries. Move to Ultra when the result needs it. Simple.

Set Normal or Ultra for recurring work.

Tool permissions

Intelligence controls how Runner reasons. Permissions control what it can do.
